Statement regarding the death of David Willis

On 6 December 2023 Timmins Waste Services Limited was convicted, following a trial, at Wolverhampton Crown Court of the following offence:

 

Corporate Manslaughter, contrary to Section 1 of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007

 

The charge arose from the death of David Willis, an employee of Timmins Waste Services Limited, who died when he was attempting to clear a blockage on an industrial waste shredding machine during the course of his work.

 

David Willis’ death was caused by a gross breach of the duty of care owed to him by Timmins Waste Services Limited, particularly in relation to the safe use of the shredder.

 

The company was fined a total of £400,000 and ordered to pay £31,690.33 in costs.

 

The company was also ordered to publish this notice of conviction.
